The Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department was officially recognized in July of 1949. It was with the help of men from the Fairmount Fire Department who attended meetings to help start the Lakeside Fire Department.
The first Fire Chief was William E. Yager, Sr. with a group of 40 men serving under him. The first piece of equipment owned by the Fire District was a tanker-pumper ordered November of 1949 and delivered in April 1950. The size of Lakeside Fire District protection area covers portions of the Town of Geddes, Town of Van Buren and Town of Camillus.
One of the most remembered fires in the area was back in 1964 when the Our Lady of Peace Church unfortunately burned down. The Lakeside Fire Department received mutual aid from Baldwinsville and Solvay during the call.
The original station was located on the same ground as of today, but the technology has changed. The alarms were being received by telephone, but there were only 6 phones in the district. The members that were on call received the emergency and generated the siren from their homes.
