Welcome to Lakeside Fire District. The objective of this site is to keep our members and our  community informed of the activities of our fire department. This site will help us establish a working relationship with our community, promote volunteerism, and give a better understanding of the benefits of being an active member of a fire fighting unit.

 

ALARMS FOR 2007

 The Officers and Firefighters responded to a total of 835 alarms for the 2007. the Breakdown is 100- fires, 462- EMS, 122-MVA's, and 151 other service type alarms

 

LEGAL NOTICE

 

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the annual election of the Lakeside Fire District will take place on Tuesday December 9, 2008 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. at the Lakeside Fire Station at 1002 State Fair Blvd., Town of Geddes, County of Onondaga New York, for the purpose of electing One Commissioner for a five year term to serve from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013 and one Treasurer for a three year term to serve from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2011. All terms shall start on January 1, 2009. All residents of the Lakeside Fire District duly registered with the Onondaga County Board of Elections as of November 17, 2008 shall be eligible to vote. Candidates for district office must file their name in writing with the secretary of the Fire District at 117 Dubiel Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13209 no later than November 19, 2008. BY THE ORDER OF THE BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS OF THE LAKESIDE FIRE DISTRICT.

LEGAL NOTICE

The regular Board of Fire Commissioners meeting for the month of December will be held on December 9, 2008  at 7:00 PM at Station 1, in conjuntion with the Annual Fire District Election.

 

Retired Fire Commissioner Charles Zogby

 

Charles J. Zogby
November 8, 2008 Charles J. Zogby, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at Crouse Hospital. He was a life resident of Syracuse and retired from OM Edwards Co. Inc., where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lakeside Fire Commissioners, town of Geddes Planning Board and was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church. Mr. Zogby was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. His wife, Helen Zogby, passed away September 29, 2008. Survivors: his daughter, Debra (John) Kolis of Mar-cellus; son, Dennis Zogby of Syracuse; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Michelle and Michael. Funeral Services: 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pirro & Sons Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling Hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Our Lady of Peace Church, Lakeland.

 

 

November 4, 2008- Units were dispatched to a MVA in the 7300 Block of State Fair Blvd. Dispatch reported a car vs tree with the vehicle on fire. Car 3 arrived on scene and advised that the patient was out of the vehicle with the engine compartment fully involved in a pickup truck into a tree. Engine 4, Rescue 5 and Squad-1 responded. GBAC Ambulance treated the patient. NYSP investigated the accident and were assisted by the Onondaga County Sheriffs Department with closing State Fair Blvd. until the scene was secured.

September 21, 2008 Lakeside units respond to a report of a missing 3 year old Lakeland child. Units searched the area for 2.5 hours and located the child approximately a half a mile from her home. Units from Lakeside, Baldwinsville, Solvay, Fairmount, Taunton and Camillus Fire Departments, were involved in the search. Warners and Liverpool FD's provide standby coverage.  GBAC and WAVES ambulances provided EMS support. Police agencies involved were Geddes, Solvay, Camillus, Onondaga County Sheriffs Ground/air, City of Syracuse K-9 and NYSP Ground/Air. Onondaga County 911 Center conducted a reverse 911 call to the surrounding area. Several area residents also assisted in the search. Lakeside Car 1 had the multi-agency command.

September 19,2008- Lakeside Rescue 5 and Engine 4 responded to a MVA rollover Route 690 eastbound near the Route 695 exchange.

September 19, 2008- Lakeside Rescue 5 assisted the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department with the recovery of a body found floating in the Seneca River, near South Van Ness Road, Town of Van Buren.

August 24, 2008- Lakeside Fire District units were dispatched to a MVA on the NYS Thruway westbound at mile post 290. A vehicle towing a travel trailer had rolled over. The trailer was destroyed and on the north side of the westbound lane. The tow vehicle was on the south side of the westbound lane with 2 people trapped in the vehicle. Lakeside Rescue 5, Engine 4, Baldwinsville Rescue 6, GBAC and WAVES ambulances treated 2 patients who were transported to Syracuse area hospitals. Traffic was restricted on the westbound lane while the vehicles and debris was removed. Lakeside Car 3 had Command.

August 23, 2008- Warners Fire District and Lakeside Fire District Units responded to a fatal MVA rollover on the NYS Thruway westbound between exit 39 and the Warners Service area. Four individuals were in an SUV. Two individuals were ejected from the rear seat of an SUV. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene and the second individual died of their injuries at the hospital. The driver and front seat passenger were treated for minor injuries. Traffic in the westbound lane was restricted for several hours while the NYSP completed their investigation of the accident.

August 21, 2008-Lakeside Fire District units were dispatched to Route 690 eastbound at the Beach Road pedestrian bridge for a MVA with possible bridge collapse. Upon arrival units found that a truck’s hydraulic lift had malfunctioned striking the pedestrian bridge causing large chunks of concrete to strike a SUV with 7 people inside. Portions of the concrete landed inside the SUV causing serious injury to the driver and passenger. Heavy extrication was required for the driver and passenger. In total 8 people were transported to Syracuse area hospitals.

Fire Units on scene were Lakeside Rescue 5, Squad 2, Solvay Rescue 11, Engine 12, Engine 21, Baldwinsville Rescue 6 and Rescue 7. EMS Units included Rural Metro, GBAC, and WAVES ambulances as well a Mercy Flight.

Route 690 Eastbound was closed unit 7:00 am on 8/22/08 until New York State DOT could remove the damaged portion of the bridge.

An excellent job was done by all responding Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement personnel  in handling a difficult response on a major interstate. A special Thank you to New York City EMT Joseph Levy and Dr. Michael Lobe for stopping at the scene and providing immediate medical care to the injured individuals. Your assistance was greatly appreciated.
